The “Pebble Beach Pro-Am” is currently trending due to significant events surrounding the tournament, which has captured the attention of golf fans and sports enthusiasts. Recent leaderboard updates highlighted by Golfweek and CBS Sports have showcased strong performances from well-known golfers such as Chris Gotterup and Jordan Spieth. Their successful starts in the tournament are likely contributing to increased interest and searches as fans want to stay updated on their progress.

Moreover, Scottie Scheffler’s struggles during the event have further amplified interest. As a prominent figure in the golfing community, any challenges faced by top players usually generate curiosity and speculation among fans and analysts alike. The contrasting performances, particularly of leading players, create a compelling narrative that draws viewers and participants to seek real-time updates and results.

The timing of this year’s tournament also plays a role in the uptick in search interest. As the event unfolds, golf enthusiasts are keen to follow the latest developments, including scores, standings, and highlights from the rounds. This heightened focus during the tournament’s active days prompts a surge in online searches for information related to the Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

Spieth is 89th in the world even though he gets a sponsor invite into every no cut signature event. I like the guy, but I bet he isn’t even a top 150 player irl.

I mean he was 13th in SG last year on the PGA Tour, 29th using Datagolf’s model. He’s been trending in the right direction. He had a couple 4th place finishes last year both in non sig events.

Need some weather to come in this weekend. Course is looking too easy for these golfers (except Sheffler)

The camera work today has been stunning. To those saying it is not the most beautiful place on earth, the camera work today showed it better than any other tourney out there, but please, go out there and at least walk it. Play if you can. Roger Maltby said today there is no other place on earth he would rather be. And he would know playing the place a couple hundred times. If I had any kind of money, I would move there in an instant.

Are majority of these Amateurs CEOs and presidents? Guys like Bill Murray or Michael Phelps don’t compete in this anymore?
G
GolferBrian • 2 points
They are slowly being replaced by millionaires. It is no longer the Crosby clam bake, it is corporate to the core.
N

Michael Phelps and Bill Murray are both worth $100million plus. Do you mean Billionaires?
G
GolferBrian • 1 points
Probably. I don’t really pay attention to other people’s wealth. Just keeping track of my non-wealth is hard enough.

Man I wish I had made it out to Pebble today. Weather is incredible.

Gotterup is getting a major this year. Not sure which one, but it’s happening

The Open Championship. He controls the ball flight so well he feels like an eventual winner there

Anyone watching Scottie’s featured group broadcast? Man I could use some of that hot hawaiian pizza on 14

I guess Scheffler’s biggest challenge this year will be finishing the 1st round under par

is he just determined to have a bad Thursday every week? Maybe he feels like he needs a new challenge. Finish Thursday at T105 and then try to win.

They just showed Lowry’s ace on 7 last year. He has an ace there and on 17 at the players. How freakin awesome is that?

Scottbot seems to have a glitch in his targeting software. He should choose to update now rather than schedule it for later.

This is something on the Tour I’ve always disagreed with. Free drops and getting a better lie, what the hell? Even in a freakin scramble at my local golf course you have to drop in the same lie.
G

Not really golf anymore. It’s entertainment and people cheer for more of it.

I’m sorry if this is a dumb question, but how is this a Pro-Am if there are no amateurs anywhere to be seen? The only answer I can find is that the pros are supposed to be paired with celebrity amateurs (ya know…like a PRO-AM!) for the 1st two days of the tournament. I’m watching the broadcast, there is zero evidence that this is the case.
S
SlightReturn420 • 9 points
There’s an am with every pro. They’re just not shown on tv hardly at all anymore. The vibe of the pro-am now is corporate, not celebrity. It all changed when it became a signature event.
J
Jerseyjamie • 1 points
See the Yeti caddying in Scotty’s group? That is a caddy for the amateur in his group, apparently named Ferris. Not many celebrity ams like there used to be, mostly CEO’s. I think they mentioned an NBA player is out there, Travis Kelce, a few more.
D
Dry_Yogurt_9607 • 5 points
Got it. Thanks, u/SlightReturn420 and u/Jerseyjamie. It was really bugging me. It makes zero sense to me for a Pro-Am to be one of the newer, signature events. It seems obvious that they should either lean in to the Pro-Am element that actually sets the tournament apart from other events, or just remove the Pro-Am element all together.

The origins of the tournament are vaguely Bing Crosby’s Clambake, where’d he’d invite a bunch of pro golfers along with his showbiz buddies to play golf, eat clams, and (I assume) get really really drunk. It was kinda the original Pro-Am so the tour is trying to keep a link to that alive, but they want to elevate the event because it’s at Pebble so they made it a siggy, so now it’s weird
J
Jerseyjamie • 3 points
They made it a signature because it’s Pebble. It’s really just the worst combination of both now. A lot of the pro’s used to skip it because they didn’t like playing with the ams for three or four days. The pro’s that did play it leaned into it, had fun and knew it was a lower profile event. It was a good TV event, but started going overboard with the celebs doing silly crap and CBS plugging all of their TV shows by stuffing a second rate TV actor into every other group. They also used to play Cypress as one of the three courses over the first three days. I guess Cypress at some point decided they didn’t want the dirty poors running around the joint. Edit- was curious, so I looked it up, apparently Cypress got cut by the PGA in 1999 because they didn’t have any African American members, according to Wikipedia.

Oh, that’s interesting. I didn’t know that. Thanks, u/WeirdlyCordial

Also to note, the first year they did the signature event model, the WM Phoenix Open was one of them instead of Pebble Beach, and I think the pros complained too much about being strongly goaded by the tour to go to Phoenix due to its track record with the fans, so it effectively got demoted of its status and turned over to Pebble in the process. (This was also when the tour said they had all intent on rotating what were then the full-field signature events (Phoenix/Pebble, Heritage, Quail Hollow, Travelers) every year, but all those other tournaments’ sponsors said lolnope.)
B
Bighead_Golf • 1 points
That is the case. There are amateurs.
D
Dry_Yogurt_9607 • 1 points
Thanks, u/Bighead_Golf. Finally just saw one! lol. These camera operators are really good at avoiding them, I guess.

Carding 2 double bogeys and still being under par is peak McIlroy
A

And I thought Scottie was putting poorly. Rory just 3 putted from 5 feet! And he 3 putted an 8 footer just a couple holes earlier!
E
EvilPizzza • 5 points
Putting is so mental. if you 3 putt once you’re definitely more likely to do it again because youre not seeing them drop. I feel for Rory right now because all his other clubs have been pretty on the money
