While it’s an improvement, Kennerd is fairly ass as well, we didn’t fleece the Hawks into a good player that will actually help us, it’s a fair trade swapping absolute dogshit for a fairly ass dude that we gave up a 2nd pick to make up the difference. We got worse defensively for an already bad defensive team.

I wouldn’t say we got worse defensively. While Gabe was an active defender, he had almost no impact because people could just run through him, and it was hard for him to get around screens.

The problem is that they never went all in. All in means you’re out of firsts and have long-term contracts on the books. Lakers are limited on firsts (if they dont trade one by the deadline) but they make it a point to have short-term deals for flexibility (at the cost of season to season improvements)

A lot of people were responsible for that off season. Jeanie for refusing to pay Caruso, Pelinka for choosing THT over Caruso, Bron and AD for pushing for the Westbrook trade. It might be fair to say heads should roll for that in a vacuum but he did build two title contending sides in back to back years by that point. Every move he’s made since has been good to great. So the question remains do you wanna fire him because he fucked up back then or because you truly believe someone else can do a better job with what little assets they have.
