Why Is amazon stock Trending Today?

The surge in search interest for “amazon stock” is primarily driven by Amazon’s recent Q4 earnings report, which indicated that the company missed earnings per share (EPS) estimates. This disappointing financial performance is likely to have raised concerns among investors, prompting a substantial influx of searches as they seek to understand the implications for Amazon’s stock moving forward.

Additionally, according to MarketWatch, there are predictions that Amazon’s stock may experience its steepest post-earnings drop in nearly four years. This anticipated decline is contributing to heightened investor anxiety and interest in monitoring the stock’s performance closely, as market participants attempt to gauge the severity of the potential fall.

Furthermore, the overall market environment plays a role in the increased searches. Reports from Yahoo Finance highlight a broader tech sell-off impacting major indices like the Dow, S&P 500, and Nasdaq, which may be influencing investor sentiment toward Amazon’s stock. Given these compounding factors, individuals are likely seeking out information and analysis, leading to the significant rise in search volume.

The MAG7 are being bent over backwards by their suppliers on pricing. $200B capex estimate from Amazon is madness and most of that change from pre-earnings estimates is due to supplier price increases
F

Not even close to true. These 2026 contracts are already negotiated and signed months ago.

Samsung/SK Hynix were reportedly not allowing long term pricing contracts for HBM and instead charging spot due to rising prices.

They increased the street expected capex amount for 2026 from $140B to $200B in one quarter’s time. I find it nearly impossible that those contracts signed in Q4 weren’t heavily affected by suppliers having capacity constraints

What does capex mean
J
jokull1234 • 54 points
Capital expenditures, aka how much they are paying to build out their cloud/data center/ai projects
J

Wonder if that includes robotics automation as well. If so, should be a good ROI.

It’s a brand of Miter Saw. By Festool: Kapex. The best. But expensive. I got the Makita and almost as good for roughly half the price. ($1800vs. $800)

$200B across Amazon, though. That’s not just AI. It’s a lot, yeah, but not very comparable to the capex guides of something like Google or Meta.

Have you used Rufus AI on the Amazon site? It is dog shit. I always have to call customer support.

But that’s what Amazon considers AI!
M

I would imagine their AI is probably catered towards internal productivity and trying to get better margins and that the hundreds of billions they spend on it is not reflected by a support bot.

Not all of this is AWS. Amazon has by far greater capex because of their retail business.
I

This makes Google’s 186 Billion capex look very legit as Google has much more services and investments than Amazon. I wonder how much of this 200 Billion will go to making the next Trump family documentary.
S
skilliard7 • 10 points
> Google has much more services and investments than Amazon. Is this a joke? AWS has 10x the features that Google cloud has. Literally the only reason Google cloud is even growing is because all of the capacity on Azure/AWS is taken. It’s an inferior substitute.

Where is all this money going then? 200b by Amazon, 185 by Google, Meta also 200b….doesn’t this means HW companies going to reboot again in coming quarters?

I feel like estimations should be layups, to miss it is a big deal, and basically says something went wrong. Their projected capex spending certainly didn’t help tho.

Firms typically find ways to manage their earnings upward (by virtue of GAAP accruals) to meet or exceed analyst estimates. AMZN missing by -$0.01 is more significant than it seems as it implies that the firm has exhausted ways to reasonably manage earnings — or else why would they not find a way to juice out -$0.01 of eps? Also capex is a possible issue
