This one stings. Absolutely insane World Series performance. 3-0, 3 CG, only 5 ER, and beat Bob Gibson in Game 7. Even had a home run in the WS for good measure, the only one he hit at any point in his MLB career.

Wow did not know that about the homer.

Oh man, RIP Mickey. My dads favorite pitcher-my dad passed away on jan 10 so I bought a couple tigers cards to honor him and Mickey was one of them–hope they can have a catch. 3 World series complete game wins in 1 season. Had to out duel Bob fucking Gibson in that series. Absolute Legend–and remember that Legends never die. https://preview.redd.it/6e2zyfficihg1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=d33498165a16deabd5d6856f7d495a352744d609

My dad’s favorite pitcher of all time. Just got him a Mickey auto for Christmas. RIP to one of the greats https://preview.redd.it/86p32g35dihg1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0b19fa17eb5fdee20f123bc2ad2831814d81d3f8

I spent a lot of morning bike rides in the early 90’s down a dangerous (to bicycle on) Indianwood rd to get a donut or two!

God. Shit just keeps pilling up huh? Thanks for being a Tiger for life Mick. Will never forget meeting him at the back of an autograph line waiting for him to arrive for his own signing 😂

One of three former Tigers I always hoped would make it to the Hall of Fame before they died. That ship has also sailed with Freehan. I have some hope that Whitaker will get there.

Im starting to despise the hof.
L
LADetroiter • 4 points
Yes, the HOF seems like a easy room to get into now with the current guys. But players from the 60s-80s, very difficult.
B
bj49615 • 6 points
Whitaker not going in with Trammel is bs.
L
LADetroiter • 3 points
Would have been great to go in together. Lou didn’t even get 5 percent of the votes his first year of eligibility. Fell off the ballot.
B
bj49615 • 2 points
The greatest and longest double play combination ever, and one is worthy but one is not?!?!?!? Absolutely ludicrous and disgusting.
L
LADetroiter • 1 points
I agree. But Trammell was always in the 30%-40% range with the voters until he fell off the ballot. Tram had the wonderful ’87 season where should should have won the MVP. World Series MVP he got. Sweet Lou didn’t have any black type on his baseball card.
B
bj49615 • 1 points
Their stats are almost identical. Absolutely no reason Tram gets in without Sweet Lou.

When I first started learning about baseball as a kid, this is one of the first guys I ever learned about due to his heroics in 68. RIP to an absolute legend

Mickey Lolich put up solid pitching numbers through the late 60’s, and ate up tons of innings as a starter. 1968 and 1969 being the most memorable, to me. I posted this pic last summer, which was meant as much as a tribute to Mickey as it was for Tarik https://preview.redd.it/h6bs749juihg1.jpeg?width=2252&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dee30b4592e3513b64aa753e5847c72b671618d7

My dad always told me when I was a kid that teams better get to Lolich in the first couple of innings because if he got into a groove the other team was done.

RIP Mickey Just a personal story I met him a few times growing up, he actually used to own a donut shop in Lake Orion. He had a a bunch of tigers memorabilia and use to joke around with me when he was worked there. It was a memory because I’d go with my grandpa since passed last year today actually, he was in construction so as a kid would go with him and we’d stop in every morning for coffee/hot chocolate and a donut

Last year in the regular season the complete game leader had two. Mickey had three in the ‘68 World Series alone. You were special on and off the field.

Loved this guy. He was an Everyman. Think he even got a National Guard call up during the Detroit unrest in 1967. One of my favorites from my favorite Tigers team. RIP.

What people often forget to mention about his performance in the 1968 World Series is that he was pitching Game 7 on 2 days rest. It was McLain’s turn in the rotation but the Tigers had already lost twice going up against Gibson so Lolich got the call.
