Amari Bailey is currently trending due to his recent decisions regarding his basketball career. News outlets report that he is attempting to become the first NBA player to return to college basketball. This unique move has generated significant interest as it challenges conventional pathways for professional athletes and raises questions about NCAA eligibility.

Additionally, Bailey has hired an agent and a lawyer to facilitate his return to the NCAA, which adds a layer of complexity to the situation. The involvement of professional representation highlights the seriousness of his intentions and underscores the legal and procedural challenges he may face in this unprecedented endeavor.

As news of Bailey’s plans spread across various platforms, the combination of his status as a former NBA player and the unusual nature of his potential return to college basketball led to over 10,000 searches. This indicates a strong public curiosity regarding the implications of his actions for both his career and the broader landscape of collegiate athletics.

I’m not even joking when I say this, but genuinely what happened to shame?

When I was in high school, two of the hottest girls dated college guys. I remember thinking that those dudes had to be the best-looking, coolest, most athletic, uber-studs on the planet. Then I got to college and the guys dating high school girls were the biggest dorks on campus. They got shamed out of it.

I feel like when that happened at my high school (then I went to college only 15 mins away) there still wasn’t enough shame going around for tht
M
Magnus77 • 1 points
There wasn’t a local college, so not the same. What I will say is that as a small school, we averaged one pregnancy per class/per year, and it was ALWAYS some chick hooking up with a significantly older dude. IDK about shame, but clearly a lack of judgment on both parties.

I get this is America and all, but the huge emphasis on “get that bag regardless” is making so many ppl forget ab dignity and respect. Should’ve never let corporations touch our college sports
Y
YouWereBrained • 1 points
It’s an emerging mindset with Gen Zers, specifically. There is this great thing someone said on Reddit, where basically, Gen Zers are being told to make money however they can, screw all societal norms.
J
JohnPaulDavyJones • 1 points
Agreed, it’s pretty rough to watch. I’ve been working with our BSA troop since 2007, and things have really changed with the boys. They used to want to grow up to be firemen and coders and pro athletes, now they basically all want to grow up to be influencers. It’s so weird to hear eighth graders talking about their “brand”.

Dunno man, probably easy to get generational wealth doing that than support desk it with your 50k+ degree
M
Mayor_Gubbin • 1 points
Sure, but 99.999% of those people are not getting generational wealth. And those that do probably have to sell their soul to the manosphere or some shit to do it.
J
JohnPaulDavyJones • 1 points
Maybe if your chances of making it to that job are guaranteed, but your expected value is a lot higher if you shoot for that support desk job than if you’re shooting for being an influencer.

Can’t blame them, shit is bleak for a majority of people
F
fuzz_le_man • 1 points
If this generalization about younger generations is true (big if), it’s clearly the result of the pathetic American economy. Even if you have dignity and respect (not to mention a high level of education and good connections) it’s fucking hard to find good paying jobs.
M
miversen33 • 1 points
Tbf, society is actively working to fuck us. I don’t blame them man. Like, your average gen Z is sitting with a metric ass loaf of college debt, they’re fresh out of college into a job market that’s fucking awful, houses just doubled in price, wages suck, etc. Make your money. Here? This is stupid lol but whatever. The world doesn’t give a shit about anyone and society is actively trying to fuck everyone. Make your bag

I hate to agree with a Hawkeye but it’s so true. Graduating at the housing crisis was shitty but there were still jobs to be had. And even then a year or so later more available for various sectors. I see kids coming into my career field today… 17 fucking years later getting offered maybe 5-10K more/year then I started with. What. The. Fuck. And for reference. The first apartment I lived at with that job is now just under 3x what I was paying.

If there is opportunity to get a big pile of money, someone is going to try it. It’s not an American thing, it’s just how people are. People respond to incentives.
A
Adraf45 • 1 points
Forget incentives. “People want money” anf you can end the sentence there. It’s not some new emerging phenomena, it’s been a thing since currency was thought up

I feel like if he goes back other teams should just refuse to play the school who lets him on the team It’s the only way we’re gonna make these guys learn they need to grow up and accept moving on from college It’s frankly embarrassing they want to go back and play college “I couldn’t make it in the NBA, let me go back and dominate younger less trained guys cause I failed at my goals.”
I
iheartgt • 1 points
So if he goes to a power conference school you’re saying they should win the conference championship by default? And then a national championship?
S
snakebit1995 • 1 points
I’m saying other teams should refuse to play them, if the league and conference give them credit for the win they are just as embarrassing as this sad excuse for a player
I
iheartgt • 1 points
I don’t think winning a national championship would be punishment
K
kirbysdream • 1 points
I don’t think that would qualify as “winning” a national championship either, if we’re going down absurd hypothetical scenarios by which every single opponent of a team essentially forfeits.

The same thing that happened to amateurism in college sports: it got overridden by bags of money.

Screw these guys trying to come back to college. Can’t make it in the NBA then move on to Europe or wherever else. Or go get a job.

Influencer culture mixed with Andrew Tate-style masculinity has made a group of Gen Z/Alpha boys incredibly self-absorbed and entitled to believe they’re the king of their own domain or whatever that human trafficker preaches.

From the article: >”You’ve got a college-aged kid who wants to go to college and you’ve got a system that says too bad, you’ve gone to a different league so you’re out forever,” said Elliot Abrams, Bailey’s attorney. “I don’t see any real justification for it.” Uh, he’s more than welcome to go back to college. He can do so as a student, and simply not play basketball. Pray, tell, Mr. Abrams, why does he want to go to college again? Just tell us it’s for the money because he can’t hack it as a pro and stop beating around the bush.

Lol the attorney here is cracking me up. How about, your client went through the process everyone does when they think they can make the league and forgo any remaining eligibility. Bro flames out of the league and now its not fair lmao. Shoutout to Amari’s mom 👀

If he goes back to school without winning this case he’ll get bullied by the other kids for having no NCAA eligibility. We can’t have that

so true. They’re just (sort of, not really) kids!

> “It’s not a stunt. I’m really serious about going back. I just want to improve my game, change the perception of me and just show that I can win.” So…go overseas? Go to the G-League? Like, he wants to change the perception of him and “just show that he can win” by…playing against 18 and 19 year olds that haven’t fully developed and don’t have the experience of **PLAYING PROFESSIONAL BASKETBALL AGAINST THE BEST OF THE BEST**? It is entirely an unfair advantage.

Speaking of Strider, guess who still has 2 years of college eligibility left.
