> She kinda dismissively turned around and told me “That is your problem to solve”. & >I am not going to let you ruin my relationship with my family. If you do not want to leave, you can pay for the Hotel and I expect you to move out by end of January Woh! Entitlement is wild here! Ma’am you’re not a landlord that’s you’re asking him move out. I mean she was polite and willing to pay for alternate arrangements it wouldn’t have escalated to this. >This morning Sara added one expense assigned to me. “Coffee” – Attached: A Starbucks bill roughly 12€. No words here.

He should have presented a bill for coffee maker use and washing machine use during the time he was there.
E
Environmental_Art591 • 423 points
Work out the Depreciation for both then divide by 3, or, divide the cost of each machine by two and they both need to “buy OOP out” if they want to keep them. Basically force them to just buy a new machine
C
Calamity-Gin • 85 points
Nope. Charge them retail for the use. €12 for every coffee they made, and however much a load of laundry costs to do in a good laundromat.
P
PepperAnn1inaMillion • 52 points
Exactly what I was thinking. If she’s asserting that use of the coffeemaker was worth €12 per coffee, then she owes OOP €12 per coffee.
D
darkdesertedhighway • 5 points
Yep. I’d have had a ball throwing back those costs at her for use of the coffee machine.
U
Unlucky_Profit_776 • 27 points
He should have charged her “Asshole Tax”
T
toomanymarbles83 • 9 points
That is what he did. He deducted the price of the coffee and called it asshole tax in German.
F
fractal-dreamz • 438 points
besides everything else, 12€ for a coffee is fucking insane
E
EinsTwo • 197 points
I’d love Germans to weigh in one what kind of coffee would cost 12 euros!
I
IanDresarie • 253 points
Star bucks speciality stuff? Last time I looked at their prices it was 8-9€ for the biggest “normal” coffee, so I can totally see a 12€ price tag. Why anyone drinks that other than to spite someone idk
I
iwantkrustenbraten • 121 points
Yep. Ordered a Venti Starbucks drink in Germany and asked for and additional syrup, rounded up to 12€. I was dumbfounded.
K
Kind-Wealth-6243 • 55 points
Ya I’m from the UK and for a specialty large coffee from Starbucks 12€ in £ seems realistic to me.
X
x3y2z1 • 65 points
So I checked on a starbucks in the center of Munich, and the most expensive one is a Strawberries&Cream Frappuccino venti for 7,90€. But OOP only said there was a bill attached, could be for two coffees, or a coffee & cake… Some examples: Espresso 3,20€ ; Cappuccino grande 5,40€ ; Latte Macchiato venti 5,90€ If you want to compare pricing, bear in mind that the dollar is currently unusually low and all taxes are already included in Germany. Starbucks is – of course – not the cheapest option.

Chances are she got a snack/breakfast (and probably rounded up as well). She seems like the kind of spiteful person who would do that. Seriously, though? Who expects everyone to bend to their will? Does she have her whole family wrapped around her finger or something? But at that point, you’d expect the male roommate thing not to matter if they think she can do no wrong.
I
ItsImNotAnonymous • 38 points
My thoughts: family expects her to bend to their will (which is why she is worried about the living arrangement from their view) and thus she expects other non-family people to bend to *her* will.

I had a roommate like her when I first moved into a dorm room for college. She actually went so far as to measure our room and laid masking tape down the center of it. Fortunately, she moved out and inflicted herself on someone else for the following semester.

A really expensive one. At most local bakeries you get a tall latte macchiato for 6 euros. Edit: is the maximum price i ve seen recently.
B
BothTreacle7534 • 8 points
I just checked, a specialised one was in 2025 at 8.4€, but it could be about two a bit less specialised ones too, like if she is like my husband, 2 cups every morning are normal for him
E
enbyshaymin • 6 points
Starbucks lol Not German, but prices are pretty standard across the board and… yeah, that shit’s expensive. Especially if you add or substitute anything, since some things have extra charges.
S
SloshingSloth • 13 points
starbucks coffee sure does. since there is a ton of bakeries with better coffee for cheaper this fee of hers is bullshit
N
nox66 • 17 points
Seriously, fuck Starbucks and support your local cafes and bakeries, before you can’t.

If OOP was evil, he could leave little bits of men’s toiletries for her brothers to find.
E
Environmental_Art591 • 82 points
Leave a note under the toilet seat so when they lift it up to pee the secrets out
G
Gnd_flpd • 10 points
Lol!!! I was going to say leave some of his underwear in a place the brothers would find, but that’s me being totally petty!!!! OK, since she’s from a male centered culture, that could get her in trouble, so not a good idea.
G
Gennevieve1 • 49 points
Also, if she felt comfortable enough to room with two guys knowing that her muslim family would absolutely freak out once they found out then it’s basically her problem. She knew the deal and still went for it. It was HER problem to solve, not OP’s. Bullying her roommates to keep her secret is not the way to go here. She could have asked nicely and offered to pay for the hotel and it would have ended there. What an entitled asshole.

dontcareboutaname • 20 points
In Germany even a landlord can’t kick someone out. A landlord can’t even end a lease if not for a few specific reasons like the rent not being paid.
E

What’s the German word for Karen level behavior 🤣
G
GSD_enthusiast • 44 points
not as catchy, but I would say Anspruchshaltung a mindset of expectation
S
SapphireCorundum • 35 points
One of the best things about German is you can string together concepts to make new words. Never use 5 letters when you can use 16.
M
MW_nyc • 5 points
>One of the best things about German is you can string together concepts to make new words. Never use 5 letters when you can use 16. We do that in English, too. All the time. But we (usually) just leave the spaces between the words or insert hyphens, whereas the Germans smush everything together into one difficult-to-read compound noun.

princeThefrog • 36 points
We would say this is “Allmann” behaviour but this doesn’t really track because her demands are so batshit insane. Allmann behaviour is also about beeing a bit old school and “pingelig” (this doesn’t have a great translation, internet says it means fussy, picky, finicky or niggling). She is just entilted. I would say “Hat dir jemand ins Hirn geschissen?”- Did someone shit in your brain. Means: this is really stupid, like really really stupid, you doesn’t even have one braincell, you have zero braincell.

This thread is a goldmine of German insults. I’d talk to my Dad about them (he’s German) but he has dementia. So reddit is totally filling a gap, thank you!
B
BothTreacle7534 • 21 points
I actually use ‘Karen’ whilst at home, but had to explain it once to my husband, adult offspring knew the ‘term’ Otherwise I use princess and the pea (Prinzessin auf der Erbse = princess ON the pea)
D
DianaSt75 • 3 points
The princess on the pea one is the same I use (from the fairy tale about the prince testing his prospective brides for appropiate levels of sensitivity, since according to the tale only a true-born princess would feel a single pea below several mattresses).

Mistake one was moving the toothbrush. That was a crappy power move and by complying OP lost a lot of ground.

I’m not very familiar with Islam, but is Sarah even *allowed* to drink coffee?? Wouldn’t the coffee machine have to get hidden with OOP when the family came over? Edit: Fuck me. In my defense, it’s the middle of the night and my dumb ass thought Muslims were disallowed coffee like alcohol. If I’d thought about it for 3 fucking seconds I’d realize how absurd that is.
B
BigONerd • 52 points
A quick google search: >Arabian Qahwa (Arabic: قهوة) is a traditional, spiced coffee from the Middle East, made from lightly roasted Arabica beans, often flavored with cardamom, saffron, and sometimes ginger or cloves. So yes, it’s allowed.
L

Yah, I just edited my post because I’m a fucking idiot and should be in bed right now.

You may have been thinking of Mormons, who aren’t supposed to drink coffee (apparently the proscription is “hot drinks” not caffeine, so caffeinated soda is fine)
K
kaekiro • 11 points
Wait… no tea either? How in the world does religion tell you that you can’t have a cup of tea? Does god hate chamomile in their book? THEN WHAT ABOUT SOUP?!
I

Would cold brew be allowed for Mormons?

G

Coffee is very much allowed. Alcohol is not.

Why would coffee not be allowed?
L
lmyrs • 43 points
oh my god I’m so embarrassed. I thought it was like alcohol and not allowed. That’s Mormons. Jesus.
C
CaptainAmhuerica • 17 points
Haha no worries. Wait, Mormons can’t have coffee?
L
lmyrs • 36 points
Pretty sure no, but I think we’ve established that I’m not a reliable source.
