While I was honestly getting bored of his voice in almost every album, I’ve got to admit I absolutely loved the soundtrack he did for Pagglait. Highly recommend for you guys to check it out it’s really good. Very similar to early Rahman. I hope he continues composing music for movies from now on.

This! It’s not that I don’t like him but him appearing on every album made me assume there was shortage of singers in Bollywood but that was not the case. Every movie wanted to play safe and wanted Arjit. Back in the days we used to have singers chosen such that it would match the tone of the actor/actress talking in the film. Legit when I was a kid ( pre 2010 ) I thought the actors/actresses used to themselves sing. The matching used to be that precise.

Maybe, you are right. But I think that he will focusing more on music composing as a composer. Clearly, he hinted he wont take assignments as a vocalist but not about music composing or producing. He should’ve sticked to playback singing selecting only few songs with different compositions thats not relevant in today’s age.

You need to read up about it, I got to know years back and no idea how good or bad is it now, but these artists get paid by wages and not royalty and that’s a big issue. Their argument is you can tour the world and make money through concerts but that is not a sustainable income. Meanwhile the labels make crores and crores in the name of the artist or the film. AR Rahman also spoke about this in the past. But he is a living legend, nobody could touch him. Edit: Oh I remember now, I came to know from one of the rants Sonu Nigam had on insta! There is a huge mafia level politics in the music industry. It doesn’t get highlighted as much as the film industry. I think this is great. If someone as big as Arijit (undoubtedly the biggest contemporary male artist right now) decides to go indie, it sets a good precedent and might end up promoting indie music more.

Is this legit? Ngl, mixed feelings if true, he has given us generational hits like Tum Hi Ho, Binte Dil, Laal Ishq, etc. So always love and respect for him as an artist, he’s brilliant. But now his voice is everywhere, I was kind of missing versatility in voices. Miss the generation when different singers used to do playback for different actors. So yeah probably this will give space to various new and old voices, Arijit Pritam monopoly is no fun.
