The recent surge in searches for “Kobe Bryant” can be attributed to several key events surrounding his legacy. One significant trigger is the remembrance of Kobe Bryant on the anniversary of his passing. This annual reflection often prompts increased public interest as fans and the media honor his contributions to basketball and his impactful life.

Additionally, a recent comment by Steve Nash, who played alongside Bryant, about his favorite memories of the late basketball star has garnered attention. Such insights from fellow athletes amplify public interest as they share personal stories that highlight Bryant’s influence on and off the court.

Moreover, the Illinois unclaimed property auction featuring trading cards and memorabilia related to both Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan has caught the attention of sports collectors and fans alike. The opportunity to bid on items linked to these basketball legends generates excitement and drives searches as enthusiasts seek to learn more about the auction and its offerings.

What I find interesting is players rate Kobe way higher than fans do.
G
guitarguy35 • 250 points
Because players value individual skill and talent. People here and media people value resume and what you can point to on paper to make an argument. Although I’d argue even on paper Kobe has the better career than Curry.
D
dream_team34 • 102 points
Agree. Fans like to look at resume & stats. Players will always look at… “who scares me to face the most”.
G
guitarguy35 • 61 points
Right, “whose the most potent, dominant, talent.” That’s why Tim Duncan for years was underrated because he wasn’t that potent of a finisher or imposing in the way guys like Shaq and Kobe were. Where any given night they might drop 50 on your head and embarrass you (or in Kobe’s case 60/70/80 on your head haha). Then people started shifting more towards stats and resume with the internet nmand now the pendulum has swung maybe too far the other way, where people are dismissing skill/potency in favor of advanced stats and accolades like all defensive teams etc..
S
Stewdogm9 • 3 points
Tim Duncan was never underrated.
H
Heartless_Moron • 2 points
Nah. Fans mostly look at stats and highlights. More fans only focus on highlights and stats compared to those who truly watch full games. A big proof of this statement is this sub.
M
MambaOut330824 • 40 points
This is such a tired argument. Players care about stats, they literally get paid based off their stats They just have a much better context for stats because most live and breathe ball nearly 24/7 and not viewing stats in a vacuum They can look at a stat and not bust their chops over it because they assess stats in a larger environment with actual basketball. Which btw has many intangibles and add’l factors NOT captured in stats

Even-Brain-3973 • 12 points
You’re 1000% correct, you can acknowledge the analytics while adding context and actual basketball knowledge
P
PrettyMeasurement453 • 6 points
They value effort too. That’s the heart of every sport.
N
notsurewhator • 2 points
We/analysts/fans whoever look at resumes and careers. Players say F all the awards, I played against this guy nobody is better. Players mostly use “eye test”
T
TennisHive • 6 points
Curry changed how the game is played, individually and strategically. Kobe did not.
R
Realistic-Device5185 • 5 points
The game is always changing. Dr. J and Skywalker were some of the first real dunkers. Are they better than Kobe for changing the game that way?
D
Dondraco762 • 5 points
George Mikan changed how the game was played. Is he better than Curry?
T
TonyHawktuah69 • 4 points
The game was always trending to chucking threes. Even if curry never played we’d still have the same game we have today.
N
No_Delay_1476 • 47 points
Kobe used to torch them lmao . It’s strange how much disrespect Kobe gets now
D
dream_team34 • 36 points
It’s mostly people that have never actually watched him play and just like to argue based on stats.
N
No_Delay_1476 • 24 points
Yeah they probably caught him between 2014-16. Kobe was amazing before his Achilles injury
T
TonyHawktuah69 • 7 points
Yup, we have to remember a lot of people posting today weren’t even alive in 2010
D
DJSureal • 2 points
Which is the reason for all the recency bias. Kobe hit the game winner on my Sonics in Durant’s rookie year. I had to see that in person. SMH Last Sonics game I went to.
V
Veganpotter2 • 3 points
I watched him play in person(MJ too and watched Kareem in his last season). I still don’t put Kobe above Steph even though I’ve seen Kobe play more live than Steph
M
Maxmil982289 • 16 points
It’s the opposite… its strange how Kobe stans over-inflate Kobe’s career and act like he was a top 5 player… MANY Kobe stans have Kobe top 3 which is absolutely absurd. Kobe was a phenomenal player, but correctly ranking Kobe anywhere from #12 to #8 all-time isn’t disrespect.
N
No_Delay_1476 • 13 points
Kobe stans lol. Bro it’s nba players who rank Kobe that highly who actually played against him. I agree he’s between 8-12 and it’s not disrespectful at all but dudes be acting like Kobe was a bum or wasn’t lethal . It’s crazy
7
757Cold-Dang-aLang • 4 points
Kobe was top 5 for years, then people that retired before him somehow leapfrogged him after he died. Lol, very interesting bullshit if I do say so myself.
H
Heartless_Moron • 6 points
You can tell that this sub are filled with teenagers who only started watching games from 2014 onwards. They don’t comprehend how the stars of previous era played. You got guys in this sub who justifies flopping instead of playing like tough grown ups.
D
Dondraco762 • 3 points
Exactly. It’s an age thing. They didn’t witness his greatness. They saw Curry’s greatness in real time and that’s all they know.
E
EntertainingJune • 4 points
Because they know ball better than the fat no life nerds who spend all day arguing over meaningless spreadsheets on social media
C
CunningAndRunning • 729 points
Kobe has 1 more ring 1 more finals mvp 7 more 1st team all-nba 12 more all-defense 7k more career points 2k more career rebounds 350 more career steals 350 more career blocks
O
Ok-Emu-9199 • 473 points
its absolutely criminal how curry only has 4 1st team all nba but i agree w u
L
Lanky_Beginning_4004 • 171 points
His comp at the position has been insane tbh
W
Wonderful_Eagle_6547 • 82 points
He also was 25 before he started playing all-NBA ball. That is relatively late for a top 15 guy. Before that age, LeBron had an MVP and 3 other top 5 MVP finishes. Larry, Magic, Kobe all had 2 first team selections before their age 25 season, Duncan had 4 already. Even if you started Steph in a weak era for guards, he only would have 7 first team selections tops through age 32. After that, there aren’t that many periods in NBA history where age 33-36 Steph makes first team. 2022 might have been the best of those seasons and he finished behind Devin Booker, who has to be one of the weakest first team guards in league history.
M
Mission_Leg_8730 • 16 points
The peaks of his career, statistically at least, also came at times where he picked up injuries late in his career which stopped him from making first team
Y
Yzst007 • 3 points
Dončić had 5( YES FIVE )
D
Drisurk • 26 points
4?!?! That’s shocking.
M
MistryMachine3 • 7 points
He has had a lot of injuries
H
hezzyskeets123 • 20 points
When u break it down it’s not crazy at all 2013: he wasn’t even considered a top 5 guard, NO 2014: Harden and CP were considered better back then, but Steph def had an argument 2017: over the 2 mvp frontrunners?? NO 2018: missed 30 games, NO 2022: was in the worst slump of his career most the szn, NO 2023 and 2024: 100% not better than Shai/Luka, NO 2025: played like shit until jimmy came, NO
M
MeteorPunch • 125 points
All that and if you ask who you take on your team, it’s Curry.
T
ThirdEyeKaiii • 7 points
Asking who? Redditors maybe. IRL I’ve never seen a credible person rank Steph over Kobe
R
RealGertle627 • 15 points
It’s mainly because Jordan is better than Kobe and they have largely the same skill set. No one is better at what Steph does
T
timetosleep • 2 points
Facts. You take Curry over Kobe if you’re asked to create an all time starting 5. It’s Curry + Jordan + Lebron + Duncan + take your pick (Wilt/Shaq/Russel/Kareem/Hakeem).
A
at_midknight • 2 points
Anyone who wants to win a game of basketball. If you want a player like Kobe, you are just taking Jordan instead. There is no other player that does what Steph does in an all-time context
R

And 1 more r4pe charge

for now
A

If you have those stats alone that’s a hall of fame player. So, basically Kobe is a whole hall of fame player better thank Steph
J
Jewrisprudent • 30 points
Bro nobody is getting in the hall with 7k points and 2k rebounds and 1 ring.
V
v8i24x • 4 points
Drazen Petrovic did it with zero rings
S
Sure-Concentrate4369 • 12 points
Not the points obviously but the awards. The gap is between Kobe and Steph is a Paul Pierce
Y
yourhomeland • 207 points
this question depends entirely if you were born before or after 9/11
T
Top_Wrangler4251 • 10 points
What about people who born between the first and second towers being hit
W
WestleyThe • 48 points
People are very decisive on both of these players but both of them are in the 8-12 range so it’s not like one is SIGNIFICANTLY higher than the other in all time rankings it’s all subjective It’s not like comparing Michael Jordan vs Kevin Durant all time who are 1a and the like 16th all time…. Kobe and Steph right now are probably number 8 and 10 all time and it’s totally fine to have either one above the other
