Chris Madel is currently trending due to his recent announcement that he is ending his bid for the governor of Minnesota. This decision has garnered significant media coverage, particularly because he cited concerns over an “unconstitutional” surge in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities as a major reason for withdrawing. The implications of such a statement resonate widely, particularly in Minnesota, resulting in a spike in public interest and searches related to his name.

Several news outlets have reported on the circumstances surrounding Madel’s campaign and his decision to withdraw. The Guardian highlighted his specific concerns regarding ICE’s actions, while CBS News provided insight into the broader context of his gubernatorial campaign. These articles have drawn attention from individuals seeking to understand the potential impacts of his stance on immigration enforcement in the state.

Additionally, coverage from The Wall Street Journal involving legal perspectives on ICE could have contributed to the heightened interest. This multifaceted reporting on Madel’s political choices contrasts with national dialogues about immigration policies, thus prompting people to seek more information about him and his political trajectory, elevating search volumes associated with his name to over 20,000.

Got to give credit where credit is due. I’m not hard right or hard left, just anti-Trump.

You do not, in fact, have to give credit where none is warranted. He’s still a fascist
N
Nice_Gold9179 • 7 points
He is not a fascist as evidenced by the tweet OP just posted
C
CreativeSwordfish391 • 4 points
he has been fine with everything the GOP has done up until yesterday. thats still plenty fascist
O

Enabler at best, there’s plenty of people to call fascist on that side, let’s not shame the people finally waking up to what this admin is

We have a single word we can use to describe fascist enablers. It’s fascist.

I mean he quit to prove he isn’t and doesn’t stand for what they are peddling. People like you with endless purity tests on all sides of isle are a joke. You generalize and play mental gymnastics so you can hate anyone not regurgitating what you say word for word. Just lame.

How do we know that?
C

The only way anything changes is when people stop supporting this. Which means people who previously at best were silent and at worst were complacent will need to stop doing so. There’s a difference between giving credit and exonerating someone, this is not an exoneration of his participation but it is credit for dropping out rather than continue to support it like most other Republicans have.

Minnesota Republicans are actually more like swing state Democrats then actual Republicans
J

It wasn’t that long ago the centrist Republicans and Democrats overlapped each other on certain issues. The further we go into this presidency, we’re seeing previously right wing stances being touted by MAGA opponents. Who seriously had “democrats pushing for 2A protections” on their 2026 BINGO cards? Credit where it’s due, the guy recognized the party didn’t match his values anymore and spoke the truth, potentially killing the career he’s worked years for. Also, calling someone a fascist for having different views and beliefs than you for supporting the ideals you hold is a bit disingenuous. Let’s build the coalition to get rid of the actual fascists, then we’ll sort out the other shit after the fact.

Isnt he the guy who helped Goode’s murderer get a lawyer? Oh, he was his lawyer. So? The absolute CORNERSTONE of our justice system is that EVERYONE deserves legal representation. No matter how horrible the crime.

Yes it’s a constitutional right

Yeah, criticizing this guy for being someone’s attorney pro bono is kind of unfair. You don’t have to like someone to defend them in court.

What did he actually run for? This is the party that constantly vetoes any policy that might in some way help the working American. He’s happy to starve people, he’s happy to deny simple rights like healthcare, he can look his daughter in the eye whilst advocating for all of that.

I think people underestimate how ignorant and lacking in intelligence the average American is. I don’t think money has as much to do with it as pure, unbridled, idiocy does. Though, that’s just my opinion. It’s not like Americans are paid to be racist in rural America, they just like to be.

“I think people underestimate how ignorant and lacking in intelligence the average american is.” Reminds me of some guy getting interviewed during january 6th. He kept referring to the capitol building as the white house, this fucking goober didnt even know where he was, he just knew he was pissed and that his boy Trump told him to go “stop the steal” and “fight like hell.” These people are intellectual cucks.

I think it’s a perfect toxic mixture. Bigotry keeps idiots licking the boots of the corporatocracy. Literally cutting off their noses to spite their faces.

This is the goal of the old guard. The old guard is pissed the new guard threw them aside so fast. They are only angry that they did not get a prize for the years of hard work screwing Americans.
N

Well his daughters would in regards to food and Healthcare. I don’t know much about this guy but no one poor runs as a republican… or democrat really.

> Madel told the Minnesota Star Tribune that he filed Ross’ application to have the U.S. Department of Justice provide legal representation under **federal regulations**. Those regulations state that federal employees who are “sued, subpoenaed, or charged” for acting in their individual capacities will be provided legal representation by Justice Department attorneys [SOURCE](https://www.startribune.com/gop-candidate-for-governor-chris-madel-providing-legal-counsel-to-ice-agent-jonathan-ross/601564089) It’s really a nothing burger, he’s not representing Ross in his case, he just filed an application for Ross to receive legal representation thru the justice department under federal regulations, which the right for representation is in the constitution, no matter how bad the crime. Why can’t we be glad that a high ranking Republican is talking against his party and pulling out of a GOVERNOR race because he feels so strongly about it, which being governor was probably one of his lifetime goals. If republicans are going to get shit on for realizing the truth, why would they even come out?
O
ol__spelch • 2 points
That’s like, literally his job. To represent people accused of crimes. You know… Like the 6th Amendment dictates?
W
Waylander0719 • 2 points
Don’t see anything wrong there? Ross is a murdering piece of shit but he still has rights, including the right to an attorney.

I mean I’d say that’s the reason you need to run but recognizing that the machine would just Eat You Alive and turn you into one of them is a good reason to step away from the machine

Everyone who agrees should send that man an email, thanking him for character and integrity in light of what the GOP has become.
P
PowerfulYou7786 • 2 points
Hard disagree. If he stays in the race, Minnesota is guaranteed a governor who opposes this bullshit. Him dropping out surrenders the Republican slot to a fascist candidate. Even if Republicans are statistically unlikely to win this race, his actions are helping MAGA by clearing the way for extremist candidates.
Q
Quisitor_Calli • 2 points
It’s been too long since weve had republicans who are respectable, not since Mitt Romney who at least respected his opponent Obama. I hope we can go back to that at some point, people like this in the republican party give me hope.
