The NFC East is a fun place where at any moment, a spontaneous alliance of three teams can materialize to tell the other team “you fucking suck you piece of trash” over a small detail, and then dissolve as fast as it appeared. Any team in the division can get ganged up on by the others. But perpetually, yes, there’s a very thorough and pure mutual loathing between Dallas and Philly. I mean, there was a video of kids at a Philadelphia elementary school punching pictures of our players the week before one of our games this year. It’s a wild level of intensity for teams that are so far from each other. You’d think most Eagles fans run into way more Giants and Commanders fans in their daily life to get mad about, but I think the massive popularity of the 90s Cowboys made them a popular choice for people in Eagles country who wanted to be contrarian.

I’m so glad I grew up in an era without “feeds” and all that. Having to deal with it at school was annoying enough. To see it in my spare time would have been soooo much worse. Although, humorously, a while ago I worked with a guy who was a Cowboys fan from Jersey. When he mentioned he was a Cowboys fan, I gave him a look and he just dejectedly said “Yeah…I know…” Those people know what they did and some show shame.

I was in East Texas in October. Went to Buffalo Wild Wings to kill time before a flight. Man, there’s this clearly Texan guy at the bar. He’s wearing an Eagles jersey. He’s got two mini championship belts sitting on a helmet. He’s doing the E-A-G-L-E-S chant with a genuine screech at the end. He’s talking so much fucking shit. It was so surreal but I imagine it’s that contrarian thing you’re talking about. 90s Cowboys were so popular so this guy decided to go against the trend.
