I have a feeling Bree is the one who ruins Lucy’s life sophomore year… not Stephen. At the wedding, it’s brought up how Stephen completely wrecked Lucy’s life in sophomore year. Then, Bree tells Lucy that she’s probably the worst person Lucy knows… I think that Bree will stumble upon the recording of Lucy admitting to making false accusations and be furious with Lucy for either one of two reasons. The first could obviously be because she’s finally uncovered her affair with Evan. The second reason is that Bree has possibly experienced the thing that Lucy is lying about on that tape.. Bree details how she knows Alex from her ‘bad foster home’, and he describes her as a bossy child who became quiet after months of living there. This likely alludes to Bree being an abuse victim within that household. In her anger, Bree might release the tape, and let Stephen take the fall. I’m not sure what the consequences would be for Lucy, but I’m guessing it could be legal action or maybe even expulsion from college. As we’ve already seen from the future timeline, she’s no longer writing.

And the fact that Bree doesn’t remember the “before” is very telling… In the book, there’s a whole thing about Lucy wanting to do a study abroad program. I like that this storyline is finally coming up! And I think the video will come out and she will not be eligible/be put on probation or something. In the book, the study abroad program (it was a very specific semester at sea something) was the main reason she chose that school. So missing out on it devastates her.

my opinion on why lucy doesn’t just tell bree is because having this secret held over her head by stephen reaffirms her belief that she is a bad person. she wants to be humiliated because she thinks she deserves it – stephen has gaslighted her to believe this – when we as watchers know there is nuance to this. i’m also wondering what’s up with bree not caring about the phone call – does she already know? does she not care? the juxtaposition between bree’s self-hatred and lucy’s is going to be great this season ahhhhh at least with alex she’s not sexually tied to stephen anymore… humiliation kink has never been so back

It’s so sad but I agree with a lot of you that have said she’s probably going to get expelled. If you remember in season 1, she tells Stephen she’s going to be a travel writer, then when Stephen asks what she’s doing for work at the engagement party she says she sells travel packages for a travel agency ☹️ she also never took her trip to India because she wanted to stay near Stephen (but they broke up for that summer anyway because he left the spring party with Diana 🙄) and I have a feeling she’s not going to be able to do that writing abroad program. Additionally, if this is the least season, that would also make sense if she gets expelled because it’s her last semester too, along with the seniors. 😕
