Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XI2IBOZzlk NOTES: * Biscotti cites 4th quarter blown leads, under performing in the playoffs, and key players making mistakes in big games as reasons for making the decision. * Biscotti wasn’t 100% sure until after the loss in Pittsburgh, and was sure the next morning. * Biscotti talked to a bunch of the veterans (including Lamar). Biscotti says Lamar is a “non-confrontational” person, spoke to him the night after the Steelers. Lamar told Biscotti has no idea where the claim that he had a problem with Monken and Harbaugh. * Lamar did not have a “outsized” influence on the decision. * The decision over the phone was purely because Biscotti did not want to ask him to come back into the office just to fire him. He apologized to Harbaugh for doing that way. Harbaugh said no apologized was owed. * Biscotti said he was choked up while firing it and Harbaugh was the one consoling him. * Biscotti felt good knowing he wouldn’t have to worry about Harbaugh landing on his feet. * Biscotti implored Harbaugh to take a break for a year if he doesn’t like the market. Doesn’t think he’ll go to a place without a QB. * Biscotti had a very specific team that he wanted Harbaugh to go to. * Biscotti thinks we have a team that can go to a super bowl, willing to give the next head coach 5-6 years if he likes what he sees. * Decosta wants to restructure Lamar’s contract to re-sign some players * Biscotti is not afraid of going after a ex-head coach with a losing record. * Biscotti specifically calls out Tony Dungy’s criticism on his firing on John Harbaugh. * Biscotti notes specifically the rise in Head Coaches who call their own plays. * Praise for DeCosta is high. * Head Coach will still report to Biscotti. The structure was setup where Biscotti would deal with any differences between the two, but such a disagreement has never occurred since 2008. * Biscotti claims he “invented” working from home. * The team hasn’t reached out to any college coaches, but several college coaches have reached out to the team. Biscotti thinks this is driven by the hell that is the NIL landscape. * DeCosta is in constant communication with Lamar following interviews. * Biscotti says if he is going up from Flordia for the all day interviews for Head Coach that Lamar needs to “get his butt up there too” if he wants to be involved. * Biscotti when asked if Mike Tomlin was a candidate, “Holy shit wouldn’t that be awesome, only if John takes the Pittsburgh job. Maybe what happened last week is a disqualifier” * No Comment from DeCosta on Madubuike’s situation * DeCosta says they need to get better on the Oline. * DeCosta thinks they under performed as a scouting staff. * Biscotti believes Madubike’s absence is the reason Van Noy went from 10 sack to 2 sacks. Thinks Travis Jones would have been facing single blocks had Madubike still been present instead of getting doubled all season. * Biscotti says him and Harbaugh will be friends forever. * Fan out cry is not a major factor for Biscotti. He lives in his world and makes his decisions based on that. * DeCosta wants a Leader as HC, someone who can relate to the players, but be firm and knows his Xs&Os * DeCosta says it’s become very apparent during the search that this is a job that coaches highly covet. * When asked if he wants Lamar to be the central figure in this organization Biscotti replies “I want him to be my quarterback” * Biscotti wants another window with cap space and thinks Lamar will agree to restructure. Ideally they want to plug the same number in and go. They want it done before they go into free agency. Cites the difficulty for DeCosta to build a roster when that is looming over the team. * Biscotti cites his experience in working in staffing noting his success with “thin resume type guys”, but thinks his experience leaning on guys like DeCosta, Sashi, and Ozzie will benefit him now. * Biscotti wants the head coach picked by DeCosta and the staff rather than him. * When asked if Tyler Loop makes the kick, is Harbaugh still coaching this team, Biscotti responds “For a week” * Biscotti was pretty uninvolved in the situation involving Tucker. * Biscotti thinks Loop is going to be a great kicker and feels awful for him. Thinks he is resilient enough to be our kicker next year. * DeCosta has 8 or 9 more interviews. Will try to trim down for 4-5 and go through in person day meetings. * Biscotti cites that it’s DeCosta’s job to guide the new head coach in our culture. * When asked if the communication between the coaching staff and Lamar was good this year, DeCosta says “Communication could always be better”. DeCosta says the most successful organizations holds players accountable. * Biscotti has higher expectations for guys like Anthony Weaver who have experience inside the organization are almost handicapped. * When asked about his ownership in 10-15 years, Biscotti responded with “I’ll be 80 Kyle!” * Biscotti reaffirms he’s not going to pass his team down to his family. Citing he’s seen families ruined over these teams (I assume he’s referring to the Bus family). He wants to win a couple super bowls. * Biscotti will bail around 10 years, probably after he has a really bad season. * Biscotti says Lamar will have “a lot of say” but no power in the head coaching search. Biscotti says he has the power and they (the players) have opinions and he wants them all. * Biscotti says he stepped back from press conferences after being asked how close he was to firing Harbaugh (I think after the Titans playoff loss). He says he’s afraid of putting his foot in his mouth. * Biscotti has a lot of respect for Jameson Hainsley and Jeff Zrebiec. Likes Mike Preston too but notes “your a little meaner” * Biscotti believes that his instincts told him that this was 100% the right time to do it. * Biscotti thanks the media for being professional enough for knowing how hard all this was for them.

Here’s the stuff I’d love to know 1. Beyond LJ, who else does SB deem a leader worthy of an opinion on both letting Harbs go and the next hire. I’m speculating he would ask the King, Ronnie, Kyle, Mandrews, Ro, maybe Pat, hopefully KVN, and I’m not sure, but Marlon too? I doubt any of those guys hold as much impact as Lamar, because the NFL is all about QB play and Lamar is the face of the franchise and will be until his time is up. 2. Steve alluded to the secession of the club after 10-15 years, when he’ll be late 70s. He knows the inheritance taxes that essentially led the Modell estate to move on may leave our team in 2040 to a new owner, maybe a Marylander but possibly not. With the league globally seeking markets, questions like are the Jags leaving FL or how long before the Bank is deemed a relic and a replacement is sought changes the existence of Baltimore’s Ravens are important. By that time you’ll have KC, Buffalo, Chicago, DC and possibly more in their new mansions. I’m sure Biscotti wants to preserve this as home but what if he passes or gets ill before he can lock that down. He knows that clock is ticking.

This press conference crystallized for me what bullshit is NOT. What he said lined up with reality. The reasoning made sense. While the firing was emotional for him, the approach to hiring a new coach will not be. They will not be trying to make a splash. They will look to hire the best candidate regardless of what the recent resume might look like. I appreciate all of that. The thing I was most encouraged by was that he said it didn’t matter if they were a defensive or offensive guru. I think this is the right approach. Football is a violent sport. First and foremost, the coach has to convince the team that he has a vision and a plan that will put them in a position to win with the personnel they have. If they believe that, it makes it easier to put their bodies on the line every week. This past season, there are things I saw that made me question whether the players believed in the coaching staff. It is my hope that they find a coach that is not only superior at coaching their side of the ball but can also also get the players to make the sacrifices necessary to winning. (For the record, I think Mike McDaniel would be a great OC but I don’t think he’s at a point where he can get his players to believe in him. Not yet at least.)

>the decision was made over the phone purely because Biscotti did not want to come back into the office just to fire him. Some one in this sub got downvoted to hell for saying they would prefer a job fire them on the phone then call them in and waste their time if their were gonna get fired regardless
O
Old-Tradition-8661 • 1 points
The conversation was actually wholesome and John Harbaugh himself probably appreciated the phone call rather than for him to drive an hour and THEN be fired.

We should be eternally grateful that man is the owner of the team we all love.

Fuckin love this man like he’s my own family. Very interesting to hear him touch on the hot coaches who inherited tough situations in previous cycles. It makes sense but makes me a little nervous lol. I trust him to make the decision he truly believes is best for the team though.

its a good thing Steve B touched on the trench play on both sides of the ball this year. If he’s dead serious about Lamar being his guy, then get him some savages on the o-line. Enough of 77/72

Biscotti’s feelings mirror those of the fans to a remarkable degree. He had to do something. His gut feeling was right 18 years ago. Even if the new guy doesn’t work out, it was right to get rid of the old guy.

Not seeing it talked about much but Biscotti was NOT happy with Warhop at all 😂

That’s why I put that. Everyone interprets it a little differently and next thing you know they are hiring Brian Billick. That was a joke. Gulp…I hope it was.

My only negative reaction was him saying Loop is gonna be on the team. Loop better be in the damn weight room this off-season working that noodle leg of his
D
deckershaw25 • 2 points
I know they drafted him and I like loop but I don’t think he should 100% guaranteed be the kicker next year, he struggled to hit the landing zone on kickoffs and was only 1-4 from 50+ and completely whiffed the biggest kick of the season, if you’re in the NFL and you’re being sent out there to win a game you gotta make those because if you don’t there’s someone else out there that will
V
veediepoo • 1 points
As others have said they will likely still bring in competition for the position so it’s not a done deal he’s the kicker
T
TheELITEJoeFlacco • 11 points
I was thinking about this as well. It’s got to be an interesting place to be at mentally. Two roads you can take imo – you miss the kick, and it weighs on you. You let it creep in, you let doubt be present, and it gives you the yips for the rest of your career. The other path is to tell yourself the worst has already happened and you’re *hungry* for redemption. You walk up to every kick knowing “you’re god damn right I’m making this fuckin kick” and you practice with intention and you approach the game with confidence. I think theres a *lot* to be said about Loop facing the media after that game. Some people respond by saying “well he should, that’s his job” but we all know he could have copped out. He owned it. He faced it. He’s a rookie. That gives me confidence in his mental ability. With that being said… LOL there may be a little concern
S
stepdadonline • 10 points
I think that’s probably more of a situation where he has nothing to gain by shitting on Loop. I imagine they’ll bring other kickers in to compete during camp and preseason. The team stands to lose on their draft pick investment if Loop loses that battle, so better to at least try and rebuild his confidence and hope he proves them right instead of doubling down on the hate and all but guaranteeing he won’t work out

Context?

It was something EDC brought up last year I believe. SB had the idea that they would take their 7th round pick and every year trade it up as far as they could to essentially turn a 2020 7th into a 2027th 1st

I used to work at the fancy golf club he was a member of in Baltimore County. Dude would always role up with a cigar and two beautiful ladies of his age, and he would always slip me a $20 and so would his ladies when I would bring their bags to their cottages/rooms. He’s for sure the man.
C
Calgamer • 20 points
I may be misinterpreting, but it sounded like Steve was saying they’re actually leaning towards a guy who was a former HC on a bad team under bad circumstances.
S
SnazzDizzy • 8 points
That is 💯 what I heard too… In that case I hope it’s Saleh
C
Calgamer • 2 points
Yep, Saleh was already one of my top picks (him and minter)
T
TheELITEJoeFlacco • 3 points
My brain went to Saleh as well. Rodgers ripping on the Jets. Davante Adams recently ripping on the Jets. Saleh having a tough time there despite consistently being a coveted coach, and to be undoubtably welcomed back to SF as a DC again… I wouldn’t be mad with the Saleh hire. I feel like he gives the accountability vibe and the toughness that comes with Baltimore.
S
SnazzDizzy • 1 points
I know we should not judge someone based on Hard Knocks but he impressed the shit out of me watching the Jets season… The NY Giants and Joel Schoen… Not so much… Apologies to Harbs if he lands there.
G
Greenergrass21 • 8 points
Mike McDaniel, kliff, saleh, or flores I would assume if that’s the case
D
Deep-Student-7394 • 12 points
I think he was just clearing up why they’re interviewing guys like Flores, Joseph, and Saleh when the immediate reaction from everyone is “what the hell they sucked at ____”
N
Nerazzurri9 • 8 points
I didn’t get the impression he was leaning one way or the other, the question was if there was anything that disqualifies a candidate and he seemed to be making a point that nobody says “bad hire” about unproven coordinators like they do for head coaches that have been put into tough jobs and maybe had a bad record with a bad roster. But the Ravens will look at the full picture and not rule out guys like Flores just because of a “bad record” in his first HC job
M
mbear818 • 0 points
Is that Kliff Kingsbury I wonder
M
molesterofpriests • 1 points
Kliff stuck out to me as well, he has a similar record to the one Steve referenced in his comment. Kliff or Saleh are the ones I feel like he is seriously considering!

I’m gonna be honest, I was happy about us moving on from John, if not a little apprehensive. After listening to Steve’s press conference, I’m waaaaay more optimistic. Guys such a good owner.

Bisciotti notes the rise in head coaches that call their own plays… YES Bisciotti believes in Loop… NO Really great summary, looking forward to the next coaching hire.

He didn’t say he didn’t believe in Loop. Not sure where you got that. He said he’s gonna be on the team and he will “learn from that experience”

I do wish Harbaugh would have been more involved in play calling. He was basically a hands off executive that is the big stick when players don’t listen to or need a kick in the ass guy.
D
DistinctMonth5587 • 5 points
What did Dungy say?
V
V-dubbin • 6 points
“I can’t believe what things have come to in the NFL. John Harbaugh has coached the Baltimore Ravens for 18 years. He took them to the playoffs 12 times. He won a Super Bowl for them. The last 4 years they were 10–7, 13–4, 12–5, 8–9. They made the playoffs 3 straight years and missed this year because their kicker missed the game‑winning FG on the last play of the season. And he was fired???? I’m sorry but I don’t understand. Good luck Baltimore in finding a better coach.”
S
Sam-Bones • -13 points
And he’s absolutely correct.
T
TheELITEJoeFlacco • 2 points
The part of “good luck Baltimore in finding a better coach” is what Steve responded to quite well. He said he’d love to ask Dungy himself “did you know about John Harbaugh 18 years ago?” You just can’t say “good luck finding someone better” when our last hiring cycle resulted in us finding a great coach.
S
savedpt • 1 points
He got lucky. He first tried to hire Jason Garrett. He was TERRIBLE. He then hires a Special Team’s coach with Zero offensive coaching or defensive coaching or head coaching experience in the NFL or even major college. John exceeded expectations. He deserved much better then a phone call to fire him. I highly doubt that we have as much success in the next 18 years as we have had in the past 18 years.
