Fun fact: Weathers’s dad is David Weathers who pitched on the 96 Yankees team. Edit: AND, he was traded to the Yankees from the Marlins at the trade deadline.

Three peat soon confirmed

With inflation it should be a fourpeat by now
B

It’s like 5x since 2000, so 15 peat?

Oh I thought it was Carl Weathers
D

Yankees could have had a real stew going

RIP. Still not over them not bringing him back as a ghost in the “Creed” movies

Oh… we’ve only just begun

I heard it was Stormy Weathers
I
imabev • 1 points
My first thought was ‘is he related to David’? Then I realized that a massive portion of this sub might not have any idea who that is.
B
bhx56x • 1 points
sooo what you’re saying is, is that there IS a chance?!
M
MVass • 122 points
Two top 20 prospects, kind of a lot for who we’re getting. But Weathers does have 3 years of control. Also guys with no real path to the majors for the Yanks. I think this is a low risk high reward type move. Feeling pretty good about the upside. Also, obligatory Matt Blake
B
beermeamovie • 27 points
I’d be more on board with the upside if he didn’t have so much injury risk
A
ActualDragonHeart • 10 points
Basically comes with being a modern day pitcher these days, it is what it is. You gotta expect it.
B
beermeamovie • 2 points
I disagree. Is pitching a volatile position with lots of injury risk? Without a doubt. Can you also avoid players who have lots of injuries in a short career, which is probably the biggest precursor to future injury? Also yes.
M
Mettl3Will • 13 points
Injury often comes down to conditioning and mechanics. I’m hopeful the Yanks can help sort that stuff out.
X
xho- • 15 points
Injury also comes down to if your stuff is nasty, and his stuff can be very very nasty
M
madmsk • 1 points
Injury risk isn’t the worst type of risk in the world. At least if a guy is injured you can put him on the IL and call someone up to take his spot. The worse kind of risk is “Just kind of sucks now”, or Marcus Stroman syndrome. Where there’s nothing appreciably wrong with him he just isn’t performing, and you don’t know if you just need to wait it out or cut him.
B
beermeamovie • 1 points
If we picked up Weathers for nothing, I agree. But this was a decent package for him. No major blue chip guys, but some solid pieces that could’ve been used in other trades
M
Marcusx8 • 3 points
Dillion Lewis definitely had a path as a right handed CF.
Y
YANKEES-98 • 16 points
Yea in 2-3 years lol. Hasn’t played past A ball.
T
thediesel26 • 14 points
Nah they’ve been trying to trade him since the deadline.
T
treyd1lla • 1 points
That seems to be the key. No path to play within those three years outside of injury to other guys whose potential is heavily banked on
I
ItsMeMofos13 • 1 points
Sure good deal for what they gave up but this means Peralta isn’t happening
R
Rickcasa12 • 2 points
I guess probably but not for certain – and Milwaukee is supposedly looking for pitchers anyway. They also might want to wait until July and see how their own window looks.
M
madmsk • 1 points
Kind of surprised it’s all bats. Our farm system is richer in arms than bats.
B
BrixxKidd • -1 points
Where was the “obligatory” Matt Blake when came to Williams, Weaver, etc. 😂 stop.
P
Prudent-Property-513 • 4 points
The Blake magic was a bit of storytelling. Doesn’t mean he isn’t a decent coach, but he’s not a miracle worker. No one is.
C
chuck212 • 4 points
With Weaver? He was taking a mid starter and turning him into a solid reliever.
Y
YANKEES-98 • 22 points
Nothing that valuable. Lewis has a lot of tools and upside but is years away. Jones is intriguing b/c of speed and pullside pop. Kinda Brett Gardner esc type player. Prob not gonna miss anyone of them tbh
Y
yeyeman9 • 1 points
I didn’t read the full headline and I saw you mentioning Jones and my heart stopped for a second
O
Orangebeast013 • 19 points
Dodgers kinda started this strategy of getting a ton of injury prone starting pitchers, and just hoping by October enough arms are healthy. Lets see how it works out for the Yankees.
N
NotClayMerritt • 50 points
That’s a big haul for a player who is injury prone and only had 1 good year out of 5 in the majors.
L
likeitis121 • 35 points
It’s quantity over quality. It’s 4 prospects, but nobody that it’s painful to lose.
J
jpb21110 • 4 points
Last years deadline proved other teams deff like yanks prospects. Just a matter of choosing the right ones to trade. Barely have heard of any of these dudes they traded over the last year
T
thediesel26 • 7 points
I bet Weathers ends up helping far more out of the pen.
T
theerrantpanda99 • 0 points
Just as likely, he’s ok some days and hurts us other days, because Boone overuses him in the wrong situations.
P
paulerxx • 2 points
He didn’t even pitch 100 innings that good year either.
Z
Zepbounce-96 • 0 points
They gave away a lot and got a little bit of nothing back. That’s how we do it round here baby!
A
ajwhite98 • 13 points
Jones and Lewis would probably have both been top 10 prospects in the system come spring update. But one is in A+ and one is the second best outfield prospect named Jones we have in AAA, so really cannot say it’s a big cost to pay.
P
phil4357 • 78 points
People CAN’T be upset by losing these prospects. I refuse to believe anyone upset by this is a real person.
D
DolphinsAreWeird1993 • 19 points
Prospects with the exception of Lewis that I haven’t even opened their Baseball America profiles on lmao
L
Latter-Plenty-101 • 4 points
Only ones I’ve heard of are Dylan Jasso and Brendan Jones
D
DolphinsAreWeird1993 • 1 points
I saw Weathers/Lewis and then let out a “WHO?” like Snoop Dogg did on that interview that’s now a meme
S
Slowhand8824 • 8 points
Tbf people always over hype prospects. Think the Family Guy scene with the mystery box. I’d gladly trade four Yankee prospects you don’t hear much about for a guy proven to be at least competent at MLB with some upside
J
JassonsGoldenFleece • 4 points
Dillion Lewis is the only one I’m nervous to have in the deal. But this is the classic Yankees trade of a bunch of guys they’re going to eventually lose in rule 5 drafts if they hold onto them.
I
ItsMeMofos13 • 1 points
The only reason to be upset is these are now 4 pieces they won’t have anymore for a bigger trade or a deadline deal next summer. And we can kiss Peralta goodbye
P
phil4357 • 1 points
Ahhhh yes 4 prospects whose names you definitely knew 6 months ago. Certainly the farm system will never recover.
R
Rob035 • 1 points
It’s not these individual prospects, it’s that the organization continues to thin out an already weak farm system for mediocre players (like McMahon). I hope I’m proven wrong, but I see very little in Weather’s stats or peripherals that suggest he’s worth four decent prospects. We could have kept our farm stronger and signed a better pitcher like Imai for a very reasonable contract. They should use the financial muscle of the most valuable organization in baseball to keep both the MLB roster and the farm system from top to bottom strong, so we have the bullets to trade for real elite talent or see some unexpected players develop. The trade in a vacuum is fine, but the whole approach is frustrating to me.

personally I really like Jones, guy walked like 80+ times in 125 games and should have the glove to stay in CF. do most fans only know like three Yankees prospects? lol
