Ya, he was in a lot of more kid-centric shows that I remember him from: Miss Bliss/Saved by the Bell, Punky Brewster, the Sinbad Show.

I didn’t even think The Corner first I instantly thought Good Morning, Miss Bliss with young ass Zach Morris & Lisa Turtle

Damn, I just finished the corner for the 2nd time last night. RIP
P

You managed to watch the Corner twice? I don’t think I can bring myself to rewatch. That was by far bleaker and more depressing than the wire.
F
FuzzyPalpitation-16 • 11 points
Yeah it was extremely bleak; but imo really great miniseries that combines journalistic work but without the wire’s creative flair / dialogue etc
P
phovendor54 • 2 points
I’m not sure which is more depressing, the miniseries itself or the book. The book has these long chapters of exposition describing welfare and poverty, resources for addiction, the cycle of addiction. Much more than could be portrayed on screen. You can’t explain the bureaucracy to getting a welfare check. That said, what you are able to see on screen is absolutely depressing. As portrayed, 1980s Baltimore post crack, epidemic looks like a Third World country.

I’ve seen Requiem for a Dream multiple times, but I don’t think I could bring myself to rewatch the corner

It’s interesting watching the wire. Then the corner. Then the wire again, seeing all the things that they used from the corner.

I’m just hearing about “The Corner” for the first time. I lurk around this sub and I’ve only heard about “We Own This City” as somewhat close to “The Wire” Anymore series or mini-series similar to this awesome show?
F
FuzzyPalpitation-16 • 2 points
The corner and we own this city are probs the most adjacent ones to the wire tbh and I’ve not discovered more similar ones yet – you can also watch other works by David Simon that are also good (Treme, Generation Kill) but those are different flavours and may not be what you’re looking for. That being said I did enjoy the shield a lot as well

Is it streaming anywhere

I know him as Nauls from *The Thing*, my all-time favourite horror movie.
B
BooksAndBooks1022 • 16 points
I consider The Corner a prequel to the wire so for me…this is basically another The Wire alum we have lost. He had quite a varied resume…the thing, the corner, a save by the bell prequel.
E
EEE-VIL • 11 points
Yes, I remember him, and he was pretty good in it.
P

The Thing and Southern Comfort, two stone cold classics. Not many left out of the latter, sadly.
D
dickiesacramoni • 1 points
Love Southern Comfort and wish a lot more people knew of it. Many people compare it to Deliverance, it’s just as good but in a completely different way. Another great Powers Boothe movie is Extreme Prejudice
L
lawrik02 • 8 points
Just watched a YouTube video about him. A lot of other actors and comedians have a ton of respect for him and used him as a coach and mentor. He is a legend amongst legends. RIP.
N
No-Recognition-4931 • 13 points
Never seen the corner but his performance in “The Thing” will always be one of my favorites.
F
FuzzyPalpitation-16 • 5 points
Definitely recommend it – doesn’t take long to watch as it’s only 5 episodes. More journalistic given it’s based on several individuals living there (who also appear in the series playing different characters)
S

*The Corner* gets overshadowed because *The Wire* soon followed it and dealt with the same subjects and the same city even better. (It even reused some of the same story beats, like the drug-dealing kid being told that he needs to cut his long hair because he’s so easy to spot, and the kid being turned away for being too young when he tries to get a legit job at a shoe store.) It’s also not in HBO’s streaming library with the other Simonverse stuff, even though they aired it. So it doesn’t come up as a “You may also enjoy.” But it was a critical sensation in 2000, still very good, and full of *Wire* faces. Knight and Khandi Alexander are superb as the addicted parents.
F
FRAMontana • 7 points
RIP. I wonder why he never had some sort of major or minor role on the wire. A lot of the Corner people ended up on the show in some capacity including the real DeAndre being brother mouzone’s lackey
F
FuzzyPalpitation-16 • 3 points
I swear I remember old face Andre’s shop also making an appearance in the corner I remember sitting up and pointing Leo dicaprio style when a scene with it came on lol
B
BooksAndBooks1022 • 2 points
I always wondered that as well. It seems like the three main characters were really the only ones who didn’t come back for The Wire (I know there were a few others like the rec center teacher (though there was a “Ms Ella” at Bugs school in season 5) and Blue) but a lot of the secondary characters showed up. It’s a shame because TK Carter and especially Khandi Alexander are such amazing actors. Thankfully Khandi showed up in Treme and killed it.

Watching The Corner was the reason I watched The Wire when it premiered. TKs performance was incredible in it.

This is making me wanna rewatch the Corner. Some of the best storytelling I and acting I have ever seen. Carter and Khandi Alexander did amazing work.

I do. Every time I rewatch the wire I end up rewatching The Corner.

Remember sitting a couple seats away from him at a Kobe-Shaq Lakers vs Knicks game at Staples Center down in the close-to-courtside seats and him saying the funniest shit all night mostly to antagonize the players on the Knicks bench a few rows ahead.
