Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel was born in Saumur, France on August 19, 1883, into poverty of unwed parents. After her mother died, she was moved to an orphanage and raised by Catholic nuns. The French designer has made her mark in the 132 years since her birth. She died in Paris on January 10, 1971.
Coco’s legend lives on in her wisdom with her voice and opinion of style a contemporary fashion. Karl Lagerfeld has been the head designer and creative director of Chanel since 1983 interpreting Coco’s vision for the modern fashion age.
A quote from Coco Chanel explains the iconic black and white designs from the brand, “Women think of all colors except the absence of color. I have said that black has it all. White too. Their beauty is absolute. It is the perfect harmony.”
