8 Common Makeup Mistakes to Avoid

When it comes to makeup there are many different levels of skill, but there are also a lot of people who use minimal makeup because they are afraid of making application mistakes. There are others who simply don’t know that they’re making mistakes during their makeup application. This list should help of the 8 common makeup mistakes to avoid.

1.Using Makeup After Expiration: Your makeup products do have expiration dates and everything that you’ve had longer than you can remember should be thrown out. Particularly with eye makeup, keeping those too long can cause irritation or eye infections. Yuck.

2. Waterproof Mascara Every Day: NO! Waterproof mascara is a great idea for weddings, funerals, and days spent at the pool or beach. But using waterproof mascara every day will dry out your lashes because of the mascara’s waterproof formula.

3. Ignoring the Eyebrows: Your eyebrows are just as important as putting on mascara because they really frame the face and make your eyes pop. You don’t want to overdo it with pencil, but a little bit of shape and eyebrow powder applied with a brush will give you a really fresh look.

4. Failure to Clean Your Brushes: For similar reasons to throwing out expired makeup, your makeup brushes can harbor bacteria after prolonged use, which can clog pores and cause breakouts. It’s best to clean your brushes at least once a month with mild soap and water.

5. Improper Lipliner Use: Don’t just line your lips because after your lipstick wears off you can clearly see the line. It’s best to fill in the lip with pencil and then apply the lip color.

6. Incorrect Blush Application: To avoid clown cheeks, do not circle blush on the apples of cheeks. Instead, smile in the mirror and brush blush from apples of the cheeks along the cheekbone to your temples. And be careful not to overdo it.

7. Overdoing Powder: It’s important to set your makeup, but you shouldn’t be able to see the powder. Use a light touch during initial application and then only touch up areas that need it instead re-apply all over the face again later in the day.

8. Back of the Hand Test: This is a DON’T because you won’t get an accurate color. Ideally, you should test foundation right on your jawline, and lipstick should be tested on your lips with a test applicator.
