They did. It had SO much potential, the way it was written in the book. In the movie it’s just…flat. I don’t know how else to put it but they even kiss funny, you don’t feel all that pent up anticipation at all!

So the new ‘stage kiss’ is to just kiss one lip and then either the chin or the area above the nose, so two lips are never in contact. Some people can pull it off, with others it just looks odd.

I think it relates to “Me Too” and the beginnings of “intimacy coordinators’. Not great for the viewers (unless the actors make it hot) but probably better for the actors’ real life partners. lol

That’s a good point. I’m all for the actors feeling comfortable with the scene they’re filming, just sucks that it breaks immersion for the viewer. Wish they could have hid it better with camera angles or zoomed out some instead of close ups.

Is it? Every intimacy coordinator I’ve worked with in theatre in the last couple years teaches real stage kisses (closed mouth with counts). This looks awful.

I thought their kissing scenes were hot 😭 I really wished they would’ve kept the longer cut in because it was such an important part in the book 🙁 and I believe tom and emily even became ill after filming because of the repeated takes in cold water, so I’m sure it was annoying that they went through all that just for a good portion of it to be cut out 😭

They changed such essential things in the movie! Omg I know books and screen plays are different but dang I felt kinda let down! I shouldn’t have re-read the book. Should have just gone in with a hazy recollection of the first read 2 years ago 🙁

I liked what they did with The Housemaid. They polished it up and made the ending better imo. They kept all the important scenes the same and it felt like the book.

Exactly, they were good changes. It’s not like fantasy book adaptations where there are things they just logistically can’t don’t or don’t have time to do, so for the most part you expect those changes but adaptations like these? They should be minimal 🤷🏽‍♀️

This is exactly why I didn’t reread the book. I’ve been burned before, and have learned to let them be two separate entities and to stop expecting or hoping certain lines or scenes make it in. It’s less painful that way, and probably why I loved the movie as much as I did — my recollection of the book is super hazy at this point

Why did they change the dialogue in this scene? It was so good in the book. Alex didn’t say I love you back! I like when poppy says “you’re the hottest man in the world” and he says “and you love me”
