No, they don’t. NASA’s medical requirements are well documented, there is absolutely no requirement for such a thing. Right now just under 300 people have flown to the ISS. Up until now there hasn’t been a single case of appendicitis. If that’s what’s going on here it would be the first instance of it. Doing nearly 300 unnecessary surgeries to prevent one case in space would be a horrible risk/benefit tradeoff. Appendectomy is a minor surgery but it is not risk-free. Appendicitis can also be managed pretty well with antibiotics in healthy people, and astronauts can get back from space in a day or so if they really need to. Please, try applying a little bit of rational thought before mindlessly repeating myths.

This may be something that was revealed during preparations for the EVA as that’s when the medical consult was requested and public live feeds went dead so it could be dealt with in private. The suits operate at a lower pressure than what the station is kept at, so something may have been revealed while the astronaut was going through the depressurization protocol, which also includes going from a ‘normal’ air mixture to pure oxygen. It was Kimia Yui who requested the medical conference, and he was helping Cmdr Cardman and Fincke prep for the spacewalk. I don’t know if Yui hangs out in the decompression chamber with the other two as they go through prep or not, but I doubt Yui would call the medical conference for himself.

To me, it reads like detecting the early warning signs of something that can turn acute (needing immediate attention) in an unpredictable time period. Something that the station isn’t equipped to handle and medical intervention is needed before the scheduled crew rotation. Being ‘now stable’ also suggests they are well enough for the re-entry trip, too, so I’d suggest that’s a good sign instead of the opposite.
