He’s also the reason that media is scared to report things properly now. You know how Disney or Apple will drag a case out forever until the other party runs out of money for court costs, so they win by default? Hulk Hogan did that to a celebrity gossip paper, Gawker. Now Gawker wasn’t some respectable paragon of journalism, but they were protected by law and the first few versions of the case fell through. But the cases kept coming. Even if Hogan’s lawyers had never found a way to actually win anything in court (they eventually did), Gawker would have gone under, and several versions specifically targeted a writer who wasn’t even really part of the story. But… Hulk Hogan wasn’t big at that point. In fact, he was kinda broke. So where did he get the money to use the Disney strategy? Peter Thiel. His involvement was secret, though when found out after the fact he wasn’t afraid to brag about his victory. Besides being a nice trial run for an American Billionaire to see how hard it would be to shut down a paper they didn’t like, Thiel had a personal vendetta against Gawker and one reporter in particular. You see, Gawker called him gay.

I was a kid in the 1980s with the rubber WWF guys, the cartoons and such. I loved Hulk Hogan. Him and Bill Cosby being utter garbage broke my heart. They could have both been heroes for ever but will always be part of histories trash heap of people. Still have Mr. Rogers at least.

I’ll never forget about 20 years ago when the Iron Shiek was at Spanky’s bar (now the St. Paul Tap) on Jefferson Ave in St. Paul MN. He was there as a “promoter” for a young protégé at the locals bar’s wrestling event. He spent 1/4 of the evening trying to hit on a lady in our group. She liked the attention and her husband and the rest of us just laughed.

Ventura’s Wikipedia page has gotta be one of my favorites.. former Navy SEAL, former pro wrestler who tried to unionize the WWF (until that bootlicker Hogan snitched), former movie star (predator!!), and former governor. One of the very few third party governors to ever be elected! I don’t agree with all of his stances but he is definitely someone who genuinely cares about people, and this country as a whole. And he’s a total badass. I hope he lives a very long and peaceful life.
